Rigola Cool School – From Naples to Brescia.. Italy’s Capitals of Culture 2023
In February, we, the students of the third year of the Middle School, went on a trip; it brought us to Solferino and San Martino, two cities theatre of a bloody battle between the Italian’s army of Cavour and the Austria’s one.
It happened on the 24th June 1859, it was important for the birth of the Kingdom of Italy.
The battle was quick, there were many deaths: 40.000 soldiers died.
After the battle henry Durant founded the “Croce Rossa”.
We went up the San Martino tower, high and rich of frescoes of battles.
We also visited the museum of the battle: we saw weapons like the howitzers rifled barrel ammunition, more accurate and faster, it gives 3 km and 200 m; therefore, both for pistols and for Austrian rifles.
We visited the city of Brescia; its name derives from the Celtic name Brixia.
We visited the museum of Santa Giulia: it was built in 753 by Duke Desiderio; it incorporates the monastery, two Roman domus, the Longboard Basilica, the Roman oratory with the treasure of the nuns.
We also visited the Capitoline temple, with the victory fairy that celebrated the victory of Vespasian inside.
We visited the Patriot Museum, built with tombstones.
The Roman theatre was built in the Flavia epoca between the 69-96d.C; it could contain 15000 people.
We also visited the Square of Loggia and the guide told us the story of whom the bomb attack of terrorist, that happened on 28th May 1974; in the square 8 people died and there is a memoir of terrorism’s victims.We saw the clock tower with two statues and the ringing bells.
It was a fabulous and interesting trip!
