Rigola Cool School – The 25th of April
“The 25th of April is this: keeping a light of hope for a more just and equal world”
25th April is a simple day for us.
It is the day when Italy celebrates the Liberation of our country from the Nazi-fascism, with the end of the Nazi occupation and the fall of the Fascist regime.
It is also the anniversary of the Resistance: people pay homage to Partisans that, from 1943, had kept fighting for the liberation of Italy.
On April 19th the partisans attacked Bologna, which was liberated on April 21st with the help of the Allies. Subsequently, the Anglo-Americans, on April 24th passed the Po and on the 25th liberated us.
Our President, Sergio Mattarella, gave a speech to remind everyone that our Constitution was born thanks to the antifascist fight.
If in our country there’s freedom, democracy and dignity we have to say thanks to the once that have fought and died to fight Fascist and Nazi oppression.
To whom opposed- these are the words of our President- to the myth of the leader, violence and war, to the idea of fight to defend the people, but to mug, not for the cause of liberty, but to remove the liberty to each other.
The people rebelled, firstly the soldiers who refused to submit to the command of the Germans, paying dearly for their choice, with the internment in Germany and beyond 50000 deaths in the lager.
Not only soldiers, but also young people, the factory workers, the farmers and the mountaineers that helped a lot the Partisans, suffering, for this, reprisals.
These words were beautiful and inspiring.
He also remembered Piero Calamandrei and his famous speech, that we have already heard in our class. He also remembered that the death of those people wasn’t useless, because wherever an Italian died to redeem freedom and dignity, go there, young people, thinking because our Constitution was born there.
