Accredited Secondary School

In lower secondary school, pre-adolescents grow through self-awareness and interaction with others, recognize their potential and develop their aptitudes, and begin to build a personal life project.
Lower secondary school is the moment when students begin to understand their aptitudes, preferences and inclinations: teachers at Rigola pay close attention to observing each individual student, in order to guide them correctly

in making the fundamental choice of a path that will form the basis of their future, both professional and personal.
In lower secondary school, students approach disciplines as perspectives on reality and as ways of knowing, interpreting and representing the world. They begin to explore complex problems and organize knowledge, with a view to increasingly integrated and mastered learning.

In Focus

Secondary School Presentation

Take a few minutes, make yourself comfortable and come with us to discover the secondary school of the Don Carlo San Martino Institute. We will introduce you to our spaces, our educational approach, our educational project!
LANGUAGE
Area

Students are offered an enhanced English curriculum that includes eight hours per week dedicated to the foreign language: five hours of teaching-learning using various methodologies including Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), flipped classroom and cooperative learning; one hour of interdisciplinary projects and two hours of technology. During the first two years, curricular preparation for the Cambridge A2 KET certification is provided. During the third year, extracurricular preparation for the Cambridge B1 PET certification is offered.

HUMANITIES
AREA

Literature lessons focus on a laboratory-based and interactive approach, with creative writing and independent reading activities. The study of history and geography stimulates critical thinking and the analysis of historical sources, through multimedia projects and the flipped classroom methodology. In addition, the humanities pathway includes an introductory Latin project to develop linguistic and logical-analytical skills.
Cross-curricular initiatives include the reading and creative writing project, theater education and guidance, which helps students reflect on their aptitudes and aspirations for the future. Projects on human rights and celebrations of international days also enrich the educational pathway, promoting socialization and social awareness.

SCIENTIFIC-TECHNOLOGICAL
Area

Using computers to communicate, utilize software and participate in collaborative networks is essential for translating ideas into actions, stimulating creativity and innovation. Students, through flipped classroom and cooperative learning, share knowledge and collaborate with classmates. Playful laboratory activities—such as multimedia games, quizzes and manual constructions—encourage active learning, while science hours in the laboratory and outdoors, with experiments and observations, support the development of skills such as cooperation, problem solving and intuition.

EXPRESSIVE
Area

Sport is the vehicle used to convey concepts such as fair play, loyalty and collaboration to students. Art plays an important role in helping students open up to the world, leading them to engage critically with others and the culture around them. The approach used is mainly laboratory-based but there is also an important focus on art history. Music, with choral experience and introduction to musical instruments, aims to improve listening and collaboration, enhancing talents and predispositions, also through student involvement in school and extracurricular events.

Our Approach

Educational - Formative Approach

The pedagogical tool underlying the educational activities of lower secondary school is the curriculum, the set of activities that make up a student’s school journey. At Rigola, this journey is progressive and continuous, beginning with kindergarten and culminating in lower secondary school. As with primary school, Rigola also offers interdisciplinary projects each year for secondary school, designed to expand the educational offering. The curricular laboratories and activities offered by the Institute propose experiential approaches (learning by doing), while also conceptualizing new experiences through the practice of critical thinking. Students grow through self-awareness and interaction with others, are stimulated to critically understand messages from society, approach disciplines with perspectives on reality, and begin to explore complex problems and organize information. They reflect on personal and group behaviors, experiencing situations where they can develop positive attitudes, collaborate with others, and take responsibility for their choices.

Families, by enrolling their children, become part of the school community. Families have a primary role in implementing the school’s educational project and commit to promoting compliance with regulations aimed at the proper conduct of educational and teaching activities. A serene climate of trust and collaboration can only favor the school’s educational action.

School Voucher is the contribution provided by the Lombardy Region to financially support families and the educational pathway of students from 3 to 21 years old for the purchase of teaching materials, merit awards, school vouchers and disability support.

School Voucher contributions are intended for students residing in Lombardy who attend state or accredited schools. The contribution supports families in freely choosing to send their children to accredited schools.

Each year the Lombardy Region deliberates on contributions. Detailed information can be found by visiting the website www.regione.lombardia.it

The accredited school is a public school recognized by the Ministry of Education pursuant to Law 62 of 2000.

The school manages the educational and cultural guidance project in full autonomy in compliance with ministerial regulations.

Teachers are carefully selected by the School Principal and supported to promote and ensure pedagogical continuity.

Classes are formed with few students so that everyone can be followed individually and valued in their educational journey.

How to Enroll
Enrollment begins with an initial contact with the office to welcome the interest; this is followed by an appointment with the school principal to learn about the school, present the educational offering and services, customize pathways discussed with the parent, and visit the school; at the conclusion of the meeting there is the administrative act that formalizes the parent’s commitment to enroll the child or student at the facility.
