ON AIR: a podcast to tell the story of the local area

There is a special way to learn that goes beyond textbooks and classroom lessons: listening, asking questions, meeting people, and telling stories. It is from this idea that the final podcast project of ON AIR: LINEA ALLA RETE was born, an initiative involving some of the primary school pupils and the entire lower secondary school in a journey to discover the local area and its riches.

Through the modern and engaging language of the podcast, the students became true reporters: they prepared interviews, collected testimonies, explored themes in depth, and transformed their discoveries into audio episodes to be shared with the school community, families, and the listeners of Radio Seveso.

The topics covered were numerous and ranged from sports to current affairs, from local history to local curiosities, through to the promotion of the local dialect and the linguistic traditions of the community. Each episode represented an opportunity to better understand the place where we live and the people who make it unique.

Interviews with athletes, coaches, and representatives of local associations allowed students to reflect on fundamental values such as commitment, respect, collaboration, and inclusion. Meetings with citizens, experts, and local witnesses offered the chance to rediscover local history through authentic stories and precious memories, transforming collective memory into a heritage to be preserved and passed on.

Particular attention was also paid to current affairs, approached with an attentive and critical eye, to help the students better understand the world around them and develop active citizenship skills. There were also sections dedicated to curiosities, folk traditions, and expressions of the local dialect, with the aim of promoting a cultural heritage that deserves to be known by the new generations as well.

The project also represented an important opportunity for personal growth. Creating a podcast means learning to communicate effectively, working in a group, organizing information, using digital tools, and developing listening and research skills. Each student was able to contribute according to their own inclinations: some conducted interviews, some wrote the scripts, and some handled the recordings.

In an era where digital communication is increasingly present in daily life, the podcast proves to be an educational, innovative, and inclusive tool, capable of uniting tradition and technology, school and territory, past and future.

Giving a voice to young people means offering them the chance to be protagonists of their own learning journey and, at the same time, building a bridge between the school and the community. With this project, every interview, every story, and every episode has become a piece of a collective narrative that values the territory, its people, and its identity.

Because knowing, listening, and telling are among the most beautiful forms of education. And when it is the young people doing it, the result becomes an extraordinary opportunity for growth for everyone.
